Portfolio for Per Henrik Storm

‘AudioMatter’ (work-in-progress) is a multi-touch application for interactive tables such as Microsoft Surface and for tablets such as iPad. With AudioMatter you can create, shape and compose together sound with your fingers on the touch surface. The goal is to give you the experience of being an expressive music practitioner without having to spend several years learning to play a musical instrument. AudioMatter is currently under development as part of the research project ‘Designing for Expressive Interaction’

My contributions: Co-designer, Programmer (Unity3D, C#), Theoretical reflection

When interaction with AudioMatter you use your fingers to create digital sound bubbles and put them into motion on the screen. The sounds will ring when they collide with each other or with the border of the screen. This way you create complex chainreaction, from which unforeseen and unique musical compositions arise.

The application is developed in collaboration with the Danish interaction design group bitCrushers (www.bitcrushers.org). In addition to the application, AudioMatter is also used as a research experiment for building a design vocabulary for expressive interaction.
